Mahendrabhai, age 54 years, was diagnosed with left hemiplegia following a stroke. He had a 2.5-year history of weakness in his left upper limb, presenting with absence of grip strength, no functional finger flexion or extension, no wrist control, and mild spasticity (MAS Grade 1+) at the beginning of therapy.

He began neuro-rehabilitation at RehabVeda, undergoing thought-controlled therapy with the RehabVeda R1 system. Initial sessions focused on grip activation, reducing tone, and restoring basic hand function.

On reassessment, Mahendrabhai showed significant improvement –

  • Grip ability improved from unable to grip → able to hold & release
  • Functional ability to grip objects such as water bottle, cup, ball, paper
  • Can maintain grasp for > 10 seconds
  • Initiates pinch grip and cylindrical grip
  • Sollerman Hand Function Test improved from 0/80 → 17/80
  • Modified Ashworth Scale improved from Grades 1+ → 1
  • Coordination improved with smoother control

He now demonstrates functional hand usage, reduced dependency on caregiver support, and has transitioned from a non-functional hand to a partially functional hand with measurable improvement, indicating positive neuroplastic recovery.
